From the beginning, Martin’s enthusiasm for applying scientific theory, in a practical and accessible way for coaches to embrace, largely formed the basis of the Pro Performance philosophy that the company still strives to maintain today. This approach in combination with the practical expertise and experience of Dan Williams has created a dynamic sports consultancy.

 

In 2012 Martin will be working both in motorsport, and branching into the elite golf arena. His aim is to apply the sports science philosophy of Pro Performance into the sport of golf, working closely with Ian Poulter throughout the year.

 

Whether motorsport or golf, having worked at a huge number of competitions throughout his career, Martin’s main area of enjoyment from running Pro Performance still comes from the buzz of getting an athlete ready for their competition...

...enhance coaching methods, improve training regimes and aid performance analysis, and so Pro Performance was born.

 

Dan was quick to identify the impact our services could have in the motorsport world, and wasted no time in steering the company solely into that sport.

 

Dan is responsible for devising the majority of the training methods and principles Pro Performance use to train our drivers, and has an excellent ability to interpret assessment results and devise highly effective plans of action for the drivers to improve on their weaker areas.

 

In 2012, Dan will continue his role as Sports Scientist for the Caterham Formula One team.

Richard Tyler

Richard has worked in Harley Street sports consultancies, and also over-sees a private practice in London's West-end. Richard offers a wide range of sporting experience having worked with athletes in different sports from field hockey and Rugby to marathon running, boxing and motor racing.

 

The basis of Richard's specialist coaching fit in perfectly with the Pro Performance philosophy, and is termed ‘performance biomechanics’. In other words, Richard can pinpoint an athlete’s physiological weaknesses and then create an effective programme to improve these areas.

 

Richard is also an expert in sports, remedial and corrective massage making him highly capable of offering top-level assistance to Pro Performance drivers over a race weekend.

 

"Richard is highly qualified, but what we are particularly pleased with is his on-going desire to try new coaching methods and to continually improve our support services at the races. Richard is used to working in high-pressure situations having worked ring-side with numerous elite boxers. As well as day-to-day training and sports therapy duties with Pro Performance drivers, Nick will be working in Formula One in 2012.

 

Alongside his role with Pro Performance, Nick also works with the English Institute of Sport and assists Team GB athletes across 3 Olympic disciplines.

Fergus Mumford

... an MSc in Sport Performance. Fergus also holds provisional BASES status as Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist.

 

Fergus has worked in the British Superbike paddock providing sport science support to riders and teams competing up to World Superbike level and international road races such as the Macau GP. Recent employment also includes working from Loughborough College as a Sport Psychologist to provide psychological support to MSA (Motor Sport Association) Academy athletes.

 

Fergus uses his spare time well, enjoying cycling (on and off-road) and cross country running.

Andy Wellfare

He is based at Pro Performance HQ and heads the physical training element of the company.

 

Andy holds an International Diploma In Advanced Personal Training and a National Academy Of Sports Medicine Certificate, a qualification specifically focused on the Optimum Performance Training model. A method that incorporates multiple types of training – these include flexibility, cardio respiratory, core, balance, reactive, speed, agility and strength. By combining these techniques within each training session, we see increases in functional strength, higher levels of neuromuscular efficiency and greater dynamic flexibility.

...in nutrition and how an individual’s nutritional intake and status can help ensure they are in peak mental and physical condition. This is especially significant, for competitive motor racing drivers, as they need to ensure they achieve euhydration prior to racing and avoid significant dehydration, which may degrade cognitive performance. In 2011 Alex provided race support to the Championship winning Carlin F3 team. Alex has worked closely with the drivers, including Felipe Nasr and Kevin Magnussen, educating them on how best to prepare physically and mentally for each race weekend.

 

Alex himself is a keen adventure racer and runner who is always looking for new and exciting challenges that pushes the body further. Two of his most recent achievements include winning the ‘Pairs 2011 Coast to Coast Challenger’ race in Scotland and running a 1.24 PB in the Birmingham half marathon.

...in July 2010 with a level 5 Diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage, Vince has traded-in his career in the mechanical side of motorsport for the human performance side.

 

In addition to his understanding of the demands of F1, Vince has provided sports therapy support to a number of elite athletes including cage fighters, triathletes and snow boarders.

 

Vince’s areas of expertise are injury assessments, postural assessments, soft tissue release, myofacial release, deep tissue sports massage and remedial massage, breathing assessments and techniques.

 

In 2012, Vince will be working at every round of the GP2 Championship and supporting our driver’s at Pro Performance HQ.
